The eighth edition of Alchemy Film & Moving Image Festival comes to Hawick from 3 to 7 May 2018. For five days, this Scottish Borders town will become the centre for some of the world’s most respected and acclaimed moving image artists, presenting groundbreaking experimental film and artists’ moving image from around the world.
Audiences will have their pick of more than 130 film screenings, 36 world premieres, 12 film installations, expanded cinema performances, a filmmaker symposium and a film walk.
This year’s line-up features a special tribute to the work of Czech filmmaker Jan Švankmajer, whose work has gone on to influence the likes of Terry Gilliam, Guillermo del Toro and David Lynch. Alchemy will honour his achievements with the UK premiere of Insect, the film Švankmajer says will be his last.
Also coming to Alchemy is the world premiere of Aftermath, a haunting biopic by Canadian filmmaker Mike Hoolboom. This kaleidoscopic exploration focuses on the lives of four artists – Fats Waller, Jackson Pollock, Janieta Eyre and Frida Kahlo.
We have a pair of tickets for your choice of either Insect (5 May, 7pm, Heart of Hawick) or Aftermath (4 May, 4pm, Heart of Hawick) with goodie bags to give away, which include an Alchemy t-shirt, tote bag and badges.
