Cox & Kings wants to send you on a self-drive adventure through South Africa, including stays in the Drakensberg mountains, The Battlefields region, a luxury safari lodge and beachside retreat.
Itinerary:
- Day 1: Fly to Durban: Overnight flight from London to Durban, with British Airways.
- Days 2–4: Durban • Drakensberg Mountains: Arrive in Durban early morning and pick up your hire car. Journey to the Drakensberg mountains, staying at Moorcroft Manor, a converted boutique farmhouse, for three nights, and explore the surrounding magnificent mountain scenery and plentiful walking trails. During your stay you will also enjoy a full day 4×4 excursion up the Sani Pass and across the border into the mountain kingdom of Lesotho.
- Days 5–6: Drakensberg Mountains • The Battlefields: Drive to the fascinating and historic region known as ‘The Battlefields’. It was here, in 1879, that the British fought the native Zulus in the famous battles of Isandlwana and Rorke’s Drift, among others. Spend the next two nights at Three Tree Hill Lodge, overlooking the Spioenkop Nature Reserve.
- Days 7–8: The Battlefields • Thanda Game Reserve: This morning drive to the luxurious Thanda Safari Lodge, located in a wildlife rich private game reserve. The following day you will have morning and afternoon guided shared safari activities tracking the ‘Big Five’ – the lion, leopard, rhinoceros, elephant, and buffalo.
- Days 9–10: Thanda Game Reserve • Durban: Travel back to the greater Durban area for two nights of relaxation or exploration. Stay at Lalaria Lodge, an exclusive retreat based in the seaside town of Shaka’s Rock, right next to the Indian Ocean.
- Day 11: Durban • Fly to London: Drive back to the airport to drop off your hire car, before boarding your British Airways flight home, arriving later the same day.
